After working in Human Resources for 20 years, Cathy followed her passion and founded Self Marketing Advantage. It began as a service to help job seekers and has expanded to coaching students on their presentation and interview skills as they prepare for college and beyond.

Cathy spent 15 years as an in-house, full-time recruiter and draws upon her firsthand experience in all roles of recruiting to provide constructive feedback and industry insight to give her clients the competitive advantage in the job-search process. Cathy's wide range of recruiting experience includes working in a variety of industries: professional services firms for 10 years, retail headquarters positions for nine years, and technology companies for three years. Companies include Google, Macys, and Gap Inc. Her experience includes hiring for international offices, confidential searches, and filling positions at all levels ranging in the areas of law, marketing, sales, eCommerce, supply chain, retail management, IT, finance, scientific advisors, corporate real estate, and human resources. She has served as a voting member on hiring committees, spoken on career panels, and developed applicant tracking databases. Cathy periodically takes on contract recruiting jobs with companies in order to stay current in her area of expertise.

Cathy has over 14 years of experience recruiting students from undergraduate and graduate schools across the United States for positions in large and small companies, ranging from Fortune 500 companies to start-ups. In addition to recruiting, Cathy worked in the area of training and development where she developed and led training classes. Through SMA, Cathy is able to combine her love of teaching with her desire to help others.

SMA leads job search strategy workshops for alumni and students and some of her clients include New York University, The Haas School of Business, The California Alumni Association, and the National Charity League. In her spare time, Cathy has volunteered at various organizations in New York to assist adult public assistance recipients who are seeking employment by providing one-on-one resume preparation and critique. On the West Coast she has volunteered her time by presenting to various job search groups in the San Francisco Bay Area, and at New Door Ventures where she helps at-risk-youth get ready for work and life.

Cathy graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a B.A. in social sciences and has taken continuing education courses in marketing and coaching at U.C. Berkeley and NYU. She also certified in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).
